Welcome to the State Europe School Berlin (SESB)

This unique programme offers language and cultural learning with native speakers in both languages (English and German). The concept starts with Pre-school and ends with the German Abitur in German and English at the Dreilinden-Gymnasium, but also offers a qualification at the end of 10th grade (Mittlerer Schulabschluss).

For further information check the website of the educational department Berlin.

What is special about the SESB?

  • the subjects Biology, History, Politics and English are taught by native English-speaking teachers
  • native and partner language are taught separately in grades 7 and 8
  • special language classes for second language learners
  • electives from year 8

Possible subjects: Latin, Science, English/German as a second language, IT, Drama, Politics

  • French, begun in year 5, is continued (students who do not come from a SESB Primary School and did not learn French will join a French beginner class with students from the other branches)
  • exchange programmes on a European level (France, the Netherlands, Spain)

Entrance Requirements

There are three SESB-Primary Schools in Berlin (Quentin-Blake-Primary-School, Charles-Dickens-Primary-School, Galilei-Primary-School) and a fourth one is planned starting soon (Dreilinden-Primary-School). Pupils from these schools who have good or very good marks in both English and German are accepted to the SESB programme on a space-available basis. Other pupils starting with the SESB programme must take an English and/or German test to evaluate their language abilities/levels and suitability for the dual-language programme. This test consists of tasks in reading, writing and communication and lasts about 60 minutes.

For further information please check the official regulations.
